Solving the Mystery: DNA Tests for Your Research

Notes for Charles Ferguson

Living Individual - Details withheldt Co., TX. Nancy was born 08 Mar 1818 SC (her death certificate says Sept 1818 SC, age 87), she died 19 Dec 1905 Stony Point, Van Zandt Co., TX.

John Wesley Terry & Nancy moved to Atlanta, GA before 1860; by 1870 they were living in Kemper Co., MS. Between 1880 & 1884 they moved to Van Zandt Co., TX. Their son, John Thomas Terry married my grandmother, Martha Elizabeth "Mattie" Riddle, d/o Benjamin Preston Riddle and Mary Ann Bass in Dec. 1885.

When John W. and Nancy married there were three children shown with Terry surnames: Mary A., Eliza C. (Caroline) and Moses Gerome Terry. I always thought that they were John W.'s, but according to my oldest cousin, her father (b. 1886) told her Nancy was previously married. I have been able to track Moses Gerome, but not the girls. John & Nancy also had two children: Alice & John Thomas Terry. Alice married Joseph Anderson Meeks and ran the telephone service (1 short ring; 2 long rings, etc.) from their home for Van Zandt & later Kaufman Co., TX. John T. & Mattie Terry farmed and lived their entire lives on their farm. This farm was previously owned by BP Riddle family. Alice, John T. & Mattie are also buried Cana Cemetery, Van Zandt Co., TX.

I have Nancy's death certificate (no parents named) and Alice death cert (names parents). John Thomas Terry's death cert. does not name parents. I also have a picture of John Wesley and Nancy.
