John and Samuel had another brother who came from North Carolina to Tennessee with them, Benejah, who lived in Sevier County & married Sarah Byrd. According to Mrs. C.C. Strange, their mother was a Clawson. The Samuel Proffitt home was at the foot of the hill where the Proffitt Cemetery is located.
